Places to eat

There are around 200 restaurants in Bournemouth serving food from around the globe. Of course I cannot describe you each restaurant but me as a food loving person and frequent restaurant goer can tell you about the restaurants that I went to in more detail.

Dosa World

Dosa World is one of the special restaurants in Bournemouth. They serve authentic Sri Lankan and  South Indian food. The restaurant is called after one of their dishes: Dosa. Dosas are fried rice based flat breads. Sometimes they are filled with things like a spicy potatoe mix. The food is cheap and  light. Be prepared that the food can be very spicy, but the waiter will let Europeans know. The food is served on authentic metal dishes. If you come for dinner the restaurant can be quite full, but at daytime it is okay. I know people, including myself, who are going there regularly for a light lunch or dinner.

Nippon Inn

Nippon Inn is a nice little 'Izakaya' Japanese Restaurant/Pub in Bournemouth. It serves sushi and other Japanese specialities. To make sure you get a seat, it is always helpful to book a table in advance. If you want, you can also sit on little pillows on a small Japanese table. This place is very famous with students, especially for birthday parties. When you are there you should try their Japanese bubble gum tasting soda which comes in a blue bottle and encloses a glass marble inside.

Mary Shelley

Mary Shelley is a Wetherspoon restaurant. Wetherspoon is a restaurant chain in the UK with hundreds of restaurants and pubs all over the country. They serve all kinds of typical British pub food but also have some dishes from other countries. I really recommend a wetherspoon for an authentic British breakfast. Most of the restaurants turn into night clubs in the evening. Mary Shelley is popular in Bournemouth because it is located in town centre and famous as a party location at night. It is called Mary Shelley because it is located next to the graveyard where Mary Shelley, the author of `Frankenstein` rests in piece.

Korean Grill

Korean Grill is a small restaurant which serves nice Korean food. My Korean friend works there and confirmed that the food is authentic. This is a place where you can go when you want to eat something extraordinary. Most people go there to experience a Korean Barbecue which is a mehod of grilling meet and vegetables on a grill in the center of the table. I personally loved the salty Korean pancakes that you dip into dark soya sauce. If you go on their website, you find an introduction to Korean food which might give you a better understanding of what you can expect.

Indian Lounge

Indian Lounge is another Indian restaurant in Bournemouth serving North Indian food. The staff is young and very friendly. I went there with another European girl and 2 Indian guys. The guys complained that the food was not spicy enough, but I think that they were just afraid that we Europeans would not enjoy the food if they made it in the original way. I got heard vert good recommendations for this restaurant but I would suggest to tell them if you would like them to use the original amount of spices.

Cuccinis

Cuccini`s is a very romantic Italian restaurant serving all kinds of Italian foods. It is very romantic decorated with a special attention for lighting. The food is priced above the average of other restaurants. The dinner is often accompanied by life Jazz music. I went there with some friends, including one Italian girl. Unfortunately, she said that the food was not authentic and to be honest, even I found it a bit bland.

Zizzi`s

Zizzi`s is a modern Italian restaurant chain. I went to the one in Bournemouth with some friends. Although the staff was not Italian they did a great job. Our waitress was very friendly and tried to keep us happy over the whole time of our visit. The food was delicious and the portions had a fair size. On their website you can book a table online.
